Spider Veins and Varicose Veins, Can One Lead to the Other?

Spider veins and varicose veins are largely grouped into one category. They are blemishes, marks, and twisted areas of the skin that almost exclusively become present on the legs. They can, perhaps frighteningly, appear on the face. There is a lot of speculation that spider veins will lead to varicose veins if they remain untreated. Spider veins are just visible marks that rest right underneath the skin. They are veins that appear as blue, black, purple, and often even red. The most common color is purple. The veins are present because the blood flow from the legs to the heart is weakened. The veins will actually sag from the weight of the blood, and that will cause them to lift towards the surface of the skin.

Varice and varicose veins are a little more damaging and invasive. They appear as visible lifts in the skin. The distinct difference between varicose veins and spider veins are that varicose veins can appear anywhere on the body. Though they most commonly appear on the legs, they will also commonly appear on the ankles, calves, and chest. They can begin small and continue spreading like tunnels along the skin.

No one is immune to either type of visible vein damage. Men will develop varicose veins nearly as common as women, but spider veins are far more common in women. Vein visibility in either situation is very genetic. The issues that lead to the development of either are quite intangible and vague, such as obesity and aging.

It is important to note that spider veins do not necessarily require treatment. It is rare that they lead to anything more than just a cosmetic nuisance. On the other hand, varicose veins can cause skin damage and marring. It is possible that varices lead to blisters and other surface skin boils. Fortunately, both vein issues are quite treatable. Spider veins may indicate the future growth of varicose veins, but it is entirely possible to have one without the other. if spider veins worsen, consider treatment. Though they are mostly cosmetic, the presence of varice veins are a little more problematic and reoccurring.
